How to Create a Strong Password

Why password strength matters

Weak passwords are one of the most common reasons accounts get hacked. Short or predictable passwords can be guessed by automated tools in seconds. A strong password is your first line of defense against unauthorized access.

Use at least 12–16 characters

Longer passwords are exponentially harder to crack. For everyday accounts, aim for at least 12 characters. For email, banking, or work accounts, use 16 or more.

Mix uppercase, lowercase, numbers, and symbols

A strong password combines different character types. This increases the number of possible combinations and makes brute-force attacks much slower.

• Lowercase letters (a–z)
• Uppercase letters (A–Z)
• Numbers (0–9)
• Symbols such as ! @ # $ % ^ & *

Avoid predictable patterns

Do not use personal information such as names, birthdays, or common words. Avoid patterns like "Password123!" or keyboard sequences like "qwerty123".

Use a unique password for every account

If one site is breached, reused passwords let attackers access your other accounts. Create a different password for each service you use.
